I have written three non-fiction books

The Gift of the Game is published by Random House. It is about hockey, divorce, and what it means to be a parent.

It is available through Random House, at, at and through me.

Rolling Home - A Cross-Canada Railroad Memoir is the story of an epic train journey I undertook with my young family from the Atlantic to the Pacific, with a mid-way jaunt north to Hudson Bay with my 70 year-old dad. It's about the people on the train, both railroaders and passengers, the deep traditions and history of rail travel in Canada, and, its less certain future.

Rolling Home won the Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-Fiction in 2002. It is available on line, for example at and

Toe Rubber Blues - Mid-life Thoughts on the Prospects of Aging was my first book. It's also available at and
